— Marsha Joseph, LMHCYou Are Not Alone
You're not broken. You're exhausted from carrying a weight that was never entirely yours to bear.
You eat for comfort, restrict to feel in control, or spend hours thinking about food — and the guilt afterward feels unbearable.
You look in the mirror and feel disconnected from what you see — like your body is something to manage and fight, not to live in.
You carry the weight of perfectionism, cultural expectations, and beauty standards that were never made for you — and you're tired.
If you're a woman — especially a Black woman — who is ready to stop fighting and start healing, you are in exactly the right place.
I'm Ready — Let's Talk
Meet Your Therapist
My path to this work is both personal and professional. I know what it's like to struggle with body shame and emotional eating — and that lived experience shapes everything about how I show up for the women I serve.
I founded The Body Place because I believe every woman — especially Black women — deserves a healing space that is warm, affirming, and free of judgment. A space where you don't have to perform, shrink yourself, or explain your culture to feel understood.
With 12 years of clinical experience and a certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I specialize in helping women heal from emotional eating, disordered eating, and body image struggles. My approach is collaborative, culturally sensitive, and always centered on your whole self — not just your symptoms.
"You are bold, brilliant, and fiercely worthy — exactly as you are."
How I Can Help
All sessions are held via telehealth and are available to adults throughout New York State.
If you find yourself eating to cope with stress, loneliness, or painful emotions — and feel trapped in a cycle of guilt and shame — therapy can help you understand what's beneath the surface and find real, lasting peace with food.
Body image isn't just about how you look — it's about how you feel in your skin every single day. I help women move from relentless self-criticism toward genuine self-acceptance, on their own terms and at their own pace.
Whether you're navigating a formal eating disorder diagnosis or a complicated relationship with food and your body, you deserve compassionate, evidence-based care that sees the whole you — not just the diagnosis.
My Approach
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is one of the most well-researched and effective treatments for eating disorders and emotional regulation. I hold a formal DBT certification and have seen it transform the lives of women who felt stuck for years.
DBT works because it doesn't ask you to just "think differently" — it gives you practical, real-world skills to manage overwhelming emotions, tolerate difficult moments without turning to food, and build a relationship with yourself that is rooted in compassion rather than shame.
At its core, DBT is about balance: learning to accept yourself as you are while making the changes that genuinely serve you. For women healing from body shame and disordered eating, that balance is everything.
Learning to be present with your body and emotions — without judgment or shame.
Building skills to move through hard moments without reaching for food as comfort.
Understanding the emotions that drive eating patterns — and learning to work with them.
Strengthening your relationships and learning to honor your own needs without guilt.
What to Expect
Working with me means entering a warm, collaborative space where you don't have to perform or have it all figured out. I meet you exactly where you are.
During our intake, we'll explore your goals, your history, and what healing looks like specifically for you. I check in regularly to make sure our work stays meaningful and aligned with what you need.
Progress often looks like feeling calmer around food, kinder toward your body, and more connected to yourself. Healing is not linear — but you will not be walking it alone.
Getting Started Is Simple
Reach out and we'll schedule a brief call to talk about what you're looking for. No pressure — just a warm conversation to see if we're the right fit.
We take time to explore your full story — your goals, your history, and what peace looks like for you — so we can build a real path forward together.
Regular telehealth sessions, built around your life and your goals, at a pace that feels right — weekly or biweekly, wherever you are in New York.
